cosy flat in Dresden near the river Elbe and the popular Elbe cycle path

We are back again.
Last summer we decided to move into a smaller flat in the same borough of Dresden, just to a very quiet and green place.
As we travel a lot and spend the summer months in our garden retreat, our small, but very cosy flat is now the very right place for us to live at.
The flat is surrounded by gardens, little paths for walking and cycling and a conservation area.
In the morning it is beautiful to have breakfast on our small balcony with the sun in front of you and just the birds singing in the trees.
We hope the list with the details and the photos will give you a good impression.
Whenever you need more information, do not hesitate to ask us.

Neighborhood

About the neighborhood

Our nice little green borough of "Laubegast" is located on the eastern edge of Dresden, on the river Elbe and on the popular Elbe cycle path, which you can cycle along from Hamburg to the Czek Republic.

Laubegast was originally a fishing and farming village.
Now there are a variety of pubs, restaurants and cafes, food stores (also a very good health food shop), bakeries, butchers, chemists, gyms, saunas, yoga retreat, some nice little shops and if you need a dentist or doctor (hopefully not), they are also in short distance from our home.

Everything you need is in walking distance or is easy to reach by bike, tram or bus.

There is also a very good connection by public transportation (tram, bus, train) to places further away from "Laubegast".

The river, the extensive Elbe meadows, the old Elbe river bed are only 10-15min away from our home by walking or bike.
Another part of our borough is surrounded by lots of beautiful private gardens, a former gravel pit in which people like to swim, fish or do water skiing led by a professional water skiing school.

The other side of the Elbe can be reached by ferry (10min by bike or tram) or just by walking along the quiet Elbe path (about 20min.)

On both sides people enjoy walking, hiking in the little hills next to the river, cycling or just relaxing in the many cafes/restaurants along the river.

The famous historic city centre of Dresden, its big variety of museums, theatres (among them the world famous Semper Opera House), historical sights (e.g. the Zwinger, the Frauenkirche, the Old Green Vault)
and in contrast the huzzle and buzzle of the Dresden-Neustadt with its party scene, alternative shops, and pubs,
can easily be reached by tram within 30minutes or by bike along the river within about 30-40min.

In summer there are a lot of open-air venues (e.g. the film festival, the city festival).

Apart from them the international Dixieland festival in May and the Music festival in May/June are very popular with people from all over the world.

If you want to slow down, just go along the river on one of historic steamers and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

There are so many places to see and activities to do that I just want to list some more:

  • the two squares "Schillerplatz" and "Körnerplatz" connected by the historic bridge "Blue Wonder": nice little quarters next to the Elbe with pubs/cafes, little individual shops, the two cable cars "Standseilbahn" and "Schwebebahn" ( 15min by tram, 20min by bike, 40min by walking)

  • the three Elbe castles on the hills near the Elbe, beautiful view, connected by a nice walking trail (15 min from the "Körnerplatz")

  • historic castle and park Pillnitz with museum, very special old trees and vegetation (on the other side of the Elbe, about 10min by bike or 20min walking +ferry crossing)

  • Saxon Switzerland with its extraordinary sandstone rocks for hiking and climbing (by tram and train about 45min, by car ca. 35min)

  • East Ore Mountains for winter sports or hiking/mountain biking ( by car ca.40min)

  • the two small towns of Meißen and Pirna with their beautiful historic old town centres, world-famous porcelain manufacturer in Meißen ( Pirna ca.11km along the Elbe cycle path or by car 15min, Meißen by car 40min.)

  • the "Spreewald", historically preserved natural area with original houses, often only reachable by special boats, connected by a network of small rivers (1h via motorway)

  • day trips to the big cities of Leipzig and Berlin or even to the Czek Republic or Poland

Hello everybody,
we are Rainer and Elke and both 70 years old.
After working as a teacher and IT-specialist for lots of years, 7 years ago we thought it was time to retire and enjoy the good sides of life a bit more. And so we did.
We have got two daughters (Katja and Daniela, 46 and 43) who live together with their own families in Dresden.
Spending time with them and our lovely 5 grandchildren is the greatest pleasure for us.
Most of the year only we two are looking for homes to swap and are flexible concerning time and place.

During the grandchildren`s holidays we like to spend time with them.
So, then we are also sometimes looking for exchanges together with them, especially in the countryside.
