We're usually quite flexible with dates and open to anything really that can be reached by train or car within a day. Anything from exchanges of a few days (if fairly close by) to longer. |
1930's apartment in Amsterdam near the Vondelpark
Light and spacious apartment in the south-west of Amsterdam, right in between the Vondelpark and Rembrandtpark. Lots of natural light (second floor) and a big balcony looking out over a quiet patio.
There's two bedrooms, one of which is for our son Joshua, who is close to two years old. His bed is not full size, so only fits another small child, though we might be able to work something out for someone bigger, if needed.
We also have a 8 year old cat, Keetje.
For the hustle and bustle of the city, we're just a 5 minute bike ride away from the city centre at the other side of the Vondelpark. You can use our bikes of course (one with a child's seat in front).
We're new here, though Daan has done a lot of exchanges with Intervac with his parents in the past.

Our Neighbourhood
Nearest Airport: Schiphol - 10 km
The neighbourhood, the Hoofddorppleinbuurt in Oud Zuid, is from the 1930s in the typical Amsterdamse School style. Our house is on a wide street, with public transportation stopping almost in front of the door. But of course you'd rather do everything by bike :)
It's a residential neighborhood, but also very lively. There're quite a few nice cafe's and restaurants closeby (a great pizzeria at 20 meters, right on the corner of our street).
Our house sits right between the two largest parks in Amsterdam: the Vondel- and Rembrandtpark. The latter is less famous, and much more quiet, more 'for the locals'. It has two outdoor gyms, and a free to visit children's farm.
On the other side of the Vonderpark is the city centre, with all its musea and cultural activities Amsterdam is known for.
A bit further out is the Amsterdamse Bos and Nieuwe Meer (15 mins biking), where you can leasure and swim. Of course the sea isn't too far out either, and neither are other nice cities like Rotterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht, all within 30 minutes by train.

About Our Family
We're a family of three:
Francien works as a doctor in Haarlem, doing her residency internal medicine. Francien does a lot of athletics (medium distance track running) at the athletics club in the Olympic Stadium, and plays the violin.
Daan works as a (web) programmer/designer. Also plays the trumpet, likes to ride a bike (mountain, trials) and does calesthenics in the Rembrandtpark (right across the street, in Amsterdam's nicest calesthenics park). Daan has also done quite a few Intervac Exchanges with his parents in the past, so not entirely new to home exchanges.
Then there's our son Joshua, and cat Keetje.
Lifestyle
We love the outdoors and outdoor acitvity, like hiking and mountain biking (the latter Daan especially). Daan is also a coffee geek, so there's a pretty advanced espresso setup in the living room.
We both play an instrument and like going to concerts in the city, especially in the Bimhuis (Amsterdam's main jazz stage).
We also like to read and have a good collection of (English) literature you can enjoy if you like.
